Magma Short Film Festival
The Magma Short Film Festival 2009 - in association with Nga Aho Whakaari, will be presenting its next festival April 30- May 03 in Rotorua, New Zealand, at the revamped Shambles Theatre.
Magma has the support of some amazing film industry professionals who come each year to share their experiences with the audience and the attending film makers. Come along and get to meet some of them!
For Magma 2009 we have as guest speakers Temuera Morrison, Karl Zohrab, Nick Ward and Nancy Brunning.
We have three judges this year who will decide winners under the categories of “Self funded” and “Funded”. We have made these distinctions in consideration of the fact that having a high budget film that might be funded by the likes of the NZ Film Commission, will have advantages in quality over other films with low budgets - whose story telling and craft show great potential and deserve recognition.
The festival is open to all filmmakers from New Zealand and the rest of the world. There is no restriction on age of the filmmaker or on the age of the film. In this years programme we have 42 short films from NZ and Spain. In fact there are so many from spain that we decided to give them their own screening and so we finish the festival on Sunday afternoon with a laid back Spanish Matinee.
There will also be workshops thanks to Nga Aho Whakaari and Script to Screen.
