The New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award Exhibition

The Waikato Society of Arts presents the 2009 New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award Exhibition.

The event is now in its 9th year and usually 20,000 visitors view the exhibition. The awards has proved an effective springboard for emerging artists to advance their careers, and for established artists to showcase their work in an attractive setting to a wide audience.

The prize for the winning piece is $15,000. In addition, the principal sponsors, the Philip Vela Family Trust, undertake to purchase the winning work for their collection, making this an extremely valuable award.

Each year a leading authority on current New Zealand art is selected as judge. Judge for 2009 will be Dr Robin Woodward from Auckland University, who returns shortly from research leave to Asia and Europe.
