Te Māngai Pāho– Māori Broadcasting Funding Agency
Te Māngai Pāho is required to promote Māori language and culture by making funds available, on terms and conditions it thinks fit, for broadcasting and the production of programmes to be broadcast. The nature and scope of Te Māngai Paho activities are to:
- Purchase programming for broadcast on television and radio targeted at the promotion of the Māori language and culture.
- Develop funding policies that encourage a diverse range of programmes to assist in the revitalisation of the Māori language.
- Monitor the Māori language content of programmes purchased.
- Consult with Māori broadcasters, Māori interest groups, Māori audiences and government agencies on the most appropriate way to promote the Māori language and culture through broadcasting.
