The Three Mezzos: Wine, Women and Song
Wine, Women and Song - spring entertainment by the vocal trio, The Three Mezzos at Highwic House on Sunday 9th November.
The Three Mezzos are an ensemble of four musicians (three singers and one pianist) who have been performing together since 1998.
They have presented concerts throughout the upper North Island, including appearances at the Bay of Islands Arts Festival in 2003 and the Whakatane Summer Arts Festival in 2008.
Their repertoire ranges from renaissance a capella works through to a 2008 commission from David Hamilton. The group always champions the compositions of New Zealanders and features them in almost all their concerts. This concert will be no exception.
With true mezzo versatility, Lynne Anderson, Margo Knightbridge and Barbara Lynch, accompanied by pianist, Warwick Gibbs, will perform trios, duets and solos in a wide variety of styles from five centuries. At some stage during the concert, they will continue their usual practice of making a ‘prize draw’ of some sort, awarding a small gift to a lucky member of the audience.
The singers were all raised in musical families, with parents and grandparents who were singers or pianists. All three mezzos have enjoyed long careers in music, with participation in choirs, small ensembles, opera, musical theatre and solo performance. Warwick’s piano-playing skills and grasp of a wide musical repertoire give him regular work accompanying solo singers, instrumentalists and choirs.
