Craigieburn Valley

Craigieburn Valley will open for the ski season in July 2008.

Craigieburn is known among off-piste enthusiasts for it's steep deep and cheap philosophy. Not for the faint-hearted or beginners with a 600m vertical descent the highlight, please remember to bring your own skis or hire them in Christchurch before you set out, as there are no ski-hire facilities. There are 400 skiable hectares accessible from this field.

There are various ski-touring opportunities beyond the patrolled area, including quick trips into Alan's Basin or Broken River or full day trips. Travel in groups, know your Snowcraft, wear avalanche transceivers, and consult the Skifield manager before departing. You MUST obey closures.

This skifield gives the option of becoming a member, for ultra-cheap rates all season. You can also go up and stay at the lodge there, just remember to book early.
