Corban Estate Arts Centre Summer School
Spend a week at the Corban Estate Arts Centre and immerse yourself in the arts this summer, January 12th – 16th 2009.
Each year Corban Estate Arts Centre (CEAC) presents its Summer School, a week long programme of inspiring workshops led by an exciting line up of well known contemporary New Zealand artists and arts practitioners.
The workshops are set in the grounds and studios of the historic Corban Winery in Henderson, Waitakere City. Included within the facilities is the CEAC Gallery (located in the former Corban family homestead), which exhibits a diverse range of artists, many from Waitakere City.
The Summer School engages participants in exploration, pushing boundaries and having fun in the creative field. There will be seven courses to choose from; each course will run for five days.
These include:
-- Theatre and Performance with Warwick Broadhead
-- Bronze Casting with David Reid
-- Oil Painting with Jenny Dolezel
-- Jewellery Design with Fran Allison
-- Creative Cape Making with Henriata Nicholas and Kelly King
-- Film Acting with Vicky Yiannoutsos
-- Fabric Construction and Soft Book Form creation with Beth Serjeant and Ingrid Dubbelt.
In addition to the formal programme there will be a session where each tutor presents an aspect of their arts practice to participants.
An optional visit has been arranged to view a couple of Waitakere’s hidden ‘Modernist’ treasures; the Holy Cross Church in Henderson with glass mosaics and stained glass windows designed by Milan Mrkusich and Louise Henderson, and a stunning modernist house designed by Tibor Donner, nestled in the foothills of Titirangi.
During the Summer School programme students will showcase their work in an afternoon open to family, friends and the general public. This gives participants a chance to present their work and receive feedback from peers and supporters. Visitors will have a glimpse of the Summer School environment, and while there, drop in on the exhibition in the gallery and soak up the atmosphere over a coffee in the Summer School Café.
