A Day on the Green: Simply Red - Villa Maria Estate

A day on the green returns to the stunning Villa Maria Estate with a huge outdoor concert event: Simply Red - The Greatest Hits Live, Sunday February 15 2009.

Led by charismatic front man Mick Hucknall, Simply Red will revisit the highlights of their incredible 25 year, 10 album career, plus Special guests: the sultry songstress Hollie Smith and rising star Nathan King.

From their very first albums Picture Book (1985) and Men And Women (1987) to the juggernaut’s The New Flame (1989) and Stars (1991), which sat at the top of the UK charts for 19 weeks, to their last studio album Stay (2007), Simply Red’s classic hits have dominated Australasian charts, racking up more than one million album sales.

The Greatest Hits tour is set to thrill fans with a set list showcasing their amazing career including: 'Money’s Too Tight To Mention', 'Holding Back The Years', 'The Right Thing', 'Stars', 'Fairground', 'If You Don’t Know Me By Now', 'Something Got Me Started', 'A New Flame' and 'Sunrise'.

With Hucknall’s gorgeous vocals and irresistible stage charisma, Simply Red’s show-stopping concerts are part of the reason for the band’s longevity and enduring popularity.

Critically acclaimed and publicly adored, New Zealand’s soul singer Hollie Smith and her 6 piece band are to support Simply Red in Auckland. Smith and her Double Platinum selling debut album “Long Player” was awarded no less than 4 awards at the Vodafone NZ Awards 2007 including Top Female Vocalist, Best Aotearoa Roots Album, Breakthrough Artist and Producer awards.

Only five years after strumming his first chord, Nathan found his songs and exceptional voice at the heart of multi-platinum, award-winning band - Zed. King found himself honing his stagecraft in front of thousands of fans in Australasia touring with Robbie Williams and Coldplay and in the US and Europe with the likes of The Calling, Ash and Seal.

Drawing on this wide array of influences and experience, and having recently returned from a two-year stint based in London honing his skills, performing and travelling, Nathan finds himself ready with a brand new album - 'The Crowd' (out September 22).
