NZSO Mainland Tour - Kaikoura

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra presents - The Lion Foundation Mainland Tour. featuring Special guests: Maria Kliegel - Cello, and Alexander Shelley - Conductor.

The programme will include:
Mozart - Symphony No 29 K201
Tchaikovsky - Variations on a Rococo Theme
Grieg - Holberg Suite
Schubert - Symphony No 3

The NZSO continues its long tradition of touring to cities and towns around New Zealand. For this tour the orchestra splits to form two smaller touring orchestras of approximately 48 players each.

Guest soloist Maria Kliegel is from Germany. She is widely sought after as a recording artist for radio, television and CD. She plays the legendary “Ex Gendron” cello made by Stradivarius in 1693.

Alexander Shelley regularly conducts leading European orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony and the London Mozart Players. In 2001 he founded the Schumann Camerata in Dusseldorf and has conducted this young chamber orchestra in over 80 concerts in Europe.
