New Plymouth District Council

New Plymouth District Council is in the northern part of Taranaki, encompassing land from Mount Taranaki to the sea, and the hill country, and plains and urban areas in between.

The council has helped to drive the district's development as a centre for events and heritage – including the creation of the world's first purpose-built fully integrated museum, library and information centre (Puke Ariki).

Further to this is its ownership of the leading contemporary art gallery in Australasia (Govett-Brewster Art Gallery); and the development of a major entertainment calendar at its top-class indoor and outdoor venues (including the spectacular TSB Bank Festival of Lights in Pukekura Park).

New Plymouth is also the New Zealand home of WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance).

The council's online Events Calendar provides information on the diverse events and activities held in the district. The website's resources also include city and district maps, a searchable online cemetery and crematorium database, and information on the council's services and facilities.
