National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries

The University of Auckland National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI) is a centre of excellence and innovation in contemporary creative arts and industries research, education and practice. Established in 2004, NICAI brings together the University's School of Architecture and Planning, Elam School of Fine Arts, the School of Music and the Dance Studies Programme under one umbrella.

NICAI's goal is to combine the principles of creativity, inter-disciplinarity and connectivity, to develop research and learning outcomes that respond to the unique cultural heritage, the people, the environment and the international positioning of New Zealand (Aotearoa). Collaboration is encouraged as an integral part of artistic and creative development and NICAI students graduate with artistic skills and sensibilities as well as an understanding of how to incorporate their creativity into the commercial world.
