Napier City Council

Napier is a compact coastal city with reserves and beaches providing everyone easy access to both green space and water. It has an attractive Mediterranean-style climate (fine warm summers and cool moist winters).

Napier's internationally renowned Art Deco sector is a key component of its heritage. The sector is based around the extensive range of inner city art deco commercial buildings and related tourism, events and services.

Napier City Council’s mission is to provide facilities and services and the environment, leadership, encouragement and economic opportunity to make Napier the best provincial city in New Zealand in which to live, work, raise a family, and enjoy a safe and satisfying life.

Within Council's jurisdiction, the Onekawa Aquatic Centre, Century and Municipal Theatres, War Memorial Conference Centre, Marineland and Aquarium, the regions Museum and Art Gallery, its parks and sports grounds, all cater for a wide range of recreational and cultural needs.

The council's role in the community involves supporting and encouraging voluntary and community-based organisations in Napier and to address important social issues in the City through self-help processes.

The Enterprise Unit provides services for new and existing business including development facilitation, advice and training.
