MOTAT: Military Live Day
Round up the troops and bring them along to MOTAT for Military Live Day on Sunday October 19th.
With interactive activities, live displays and rides, the whole family can experience what military life was like for New Zealanders who fought in the two World Wars.
“It will give you a real taste of what it was like to be a soldier in the World Wars”, says Angela Willis, Marketing Manager at MOTAT.
Visitors can enjoy re-enactments of famous World War II and Vietnam War battles at 1.15pm and 2.30pm or stand back and watch a weapons test fire with WWII machine guns at 11am.
See what it was like to pilot a plane during the War with a tour through MOTAT’s historical aircraft hanger, as well as cockpit tours of the Solent Flying Boat and a look into the workshop where MOTAT’s volunteers restore much loved aircrafts.
A ‘Tank Tow’ will take place at 2pm; you may even be invited to participate in this tug of war with a tank!
Kids of all ages will enjoy MOTAT’s Military Day; they can take a ride on the MOTAT steam train, enjoy war themed food as well as rides in the some of the military vehicles that will be on site. The Royal New Zealand Air Force Band will also be performing at 12pm.
Ms Willis says the Live Day will be a sneak preview of the upcoming MOTAT Military Weekend in March 2009. Military events at MOTAT have been running for 13 years and provide a great insight into the sacrifice the older generation made during wartime says Ms Willis.
You can enjoy Military Live Day as part of your entry fee to MOTAT. You can also enjoy the rest of the museum, free tram rides and entry to the Tactile Dome and Voyager1 for one great price.
