Hawke's Bay Museum and Art Gallery

From the details of art deco to the choices made by the contemporary consumer society, the Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery (HBMAG) examines the style choices we all make.

Located in the centre of Napier, Hawke's Bay Museum & Art Gallery transcends its modest size to maintain an enviable reputation as the home of the most innovative design exhibitions in New Zealand. Here we break the rules of traditional galleries and put the art of our everyday lives first.

Just as the style choices of the 1930s can be seen in every block of the city, the galleries of the Hawke's Bay Museum & Art Gallery bring the catalogue of twentieth and twenty-first century style choices alive. Here the decisions that led our grandmothers to choose satin ball gowns, or that led dad to customize his escort van, live alongside our own everyday style choices.

Our programme has a variety of changing exhibitions, which include the 1931 Napier Earthquake and Art Deco Style.

The Museum Shop has a fantastic range of New Zealand art and design related merchandise, including books, cards, calendars, textiles and homewares, and jewellery. For that special gift or memento, the Museum Shop is the ideal place to visit.

Enjoy great movies in the Century Cinema, where world-class films are screened each week in a fantastic 330-seat theatre with superb acoustics, state-of-the-art technology and Dolby digital sound. For programme details, visit our website: www.centurycinema.co.nz
