Filmhead Network
Filmhead Network is the brainchild of film enthusiast, critic and entrepreneur Ant Timpson. Showing unrivalled passion, Timpson’s multi-pronged cinematic tour de force seeks to educate, entertain, and generally unsettle the movie watching public of New Zealand. Filmhead Network’s website is a hive of activity, the hub to That's Incredible Cinema, V Movie Marathon, Cinema Circus and the 48 Hours Furious Filmmaking Comp.
Ant founded The Incredibly Strange Film Festival in 1994, a collection of unusual films that travelled the country. It was/is the best attended festival of its type in the world. The fact that there was nothing like it in the world helped to substantiate this claim. In 2001 the formerly known "Incredibly Strange" became simply The Incredible Film Festival and has now mutated once again to That’s Incredible Cinema and is part of the annual Telecom International Film Festival. This mini-fest within a fest is an annual celebration of new genre films and documentaries.
Ant is also part of Headstrong, an initiative funded by the New Zealand Film Commission to produce feature films. The first of these, The Devil Dared Me To (www.devildaredmeto.com) is out in 2007.
The V Movie Marathon is a non stop event that shows moves for twenty four hours. Even for the most hardened film aficionados, this is just plain crazy.
Cinema Circus travels around NZ showing movies outdoors on its giant inflatable screen. Please check the website regularly for details.
SInce 2003, 48HOURS - Furious Filmmaking has been New Zealand's premier short film competition. Each year it attracts thousands of participants, the films are then seen by thousands in cinemas, DVD and a live TV final.
