Early Dunedin on Film
A programme from The Film Archive’s collection showing the earliest moving images of Otago. Many of the films were made by Henry Gore, who was Otago’s first filmmaker. Subjects include the tour of inspection of the Defence Forces by Lord Kitchener in 1910; dramatic footage of the Wreck of the SS Tyrone in 1913; The Garden Fete at ‘Terangi’ in 1913; a Living Flag made by school children in a Dunedin park in 1923, and a documentary showing the building and opening of the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition in 1924. All this and much more will be screened on film with piano accompaniment by well known Dunedin musician, Eli Gray-Smith.
