An Independent Mind
To mark Courage Day, which honours imprisoned and persecuted writers, the NZ Society of Authors, which incorporates the NZ Centre of PEN International and Writers in Prison, presents a free screening of a controversial new documentary. An Independent Mind features eight free speech heroes and villains from around the world asserting their rights to express themselves. Their stories focus not just on the developing world but also on Western democracies in an attempt to encourage people to reflect on the importance of freedom of expression with all its attendant complexities, challenges and limits.
