Destination Northland

Destination Northland, the Regional Tourism Organisation, is responsible for marketing and promoting the Northland region as a visitor destination both nationally and internationally.

‘Northland Naturally – First Region of New Zealand’ is the theme for our region, expressing a dynamic combination of natural, unspoilt resources coupled with a unique history and culture.

New Zealand’s first Maori and European migrants settled here, and the evidence of Northland being the birthplace of a nation is all around, from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds in the Bay of Islands to the Hokianga Harbour on the west coast. Although rich in history, Northland remains a superbly natural, subtropical environment with ancient kauri forests and hundreds of kilometres of stunning coastline, the region is a paradise for nature lovers and holiday makers.

Northland is a place to indulge the senses, with exclusive luxury lodges, secluded retreats, spas and health resorts. Accommodation encompasses everything from historic homesteads to stylish B&Bs, well-designed motels and camp grounds.

Northland is fast becoming a food and wine mecca, with a range of highly rated restaurants and cafes, farmers’ markets and special events showcasing local produce and award winning local wines.
