World Wetlands Day

February 2nd each year is World Wetlands Day. It marks the 1971 signing of the international Convention on Wetlands in Ramsar, Iran.

World Wetlands Day has been celebrated since 1997 and provides an opportunity to draw attention to the need for wise management of the world's wetlands.

In New Zealand, Fish and Game New Zealand acts as the lead agency for co-ordination of World Wetlands Day events in conjunction with the Department of Conservation.
