Spirited Cemetery Tours
Local identity Richard Greenaway time travels forward from the nineteenth century to bring his "Spirited Cemetery Tours" into the Swinging Sixties and beyond! Richard will conduct tours of the Bromley, Ruru Lawn and Memorial Park cemeteries, bringing to life the stories of local notables who were active in the community during the 1940s - 1970s, and who are now interred in these 'modern' cemeteries. A feature of the Ruru Lawn Cemetery tour will be a visit to the mass grave of those who perished in the tragic 1947 Ballantyne's fire.
Heritage Week aims to raise awareness of our special heritage places, and the importance and benefits of conserving them. 2008's theme is RETROspective: Christchurch life, architecture and design 1940s - 1970s. Get ready for some retro fun!
