Vaka Moana in Australia
Vaka Moana is an exhibition showing New Zealand's incredible story of the exploration of the Pacific.
200 objects from Auckland Museum’s collection, and other New Zealand and international collections, including rare carvings and a full-size inter-island voyaging canoe will be on display. The exhibition will be supported by specially commissioned multi-media installations, interactive displays and an award winning, authoritative tie-in book.
It begins 4000 years ago - 3500 years before Europeans even thought to head south, when the ancestors of the Pacific looked toward a never-ending horizon and launched the world's first sea-going craft into the greatest ocean on Earth. Their journeys and settlements were accomplished with great skill and inconceivable bravery - it is the Pacific story.
