Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra

Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra is led by Bryan Holden, a well known local musician. It is an increasingly popular orchestra made up of the family of mandolins with guitars and additional instruments to enhance the sound. The quality of this musical group, that is the only one in New Zealand, is very high with 30 amateurs and professionals playing alongside each
other.

The orchestra is available for hire for corporate events, conferences, weddings, concerts, etc. at very reasonable rates and is particularly popular as background music for theme oriented occasions. They play in many different venues and hold a concert series every year.

The orchestra's repertoire is very wide with music from Europe, East and West, Mediterranean, Australasian and parts of Asia, classical, jazz and swing. Talent within the orchestra includes new and exciting arrangements by Bryan Holden and Robin Worley. Our Christmas collection is extensive.

New players are welcome - Violin, viola, cello players can adapt easily to the mandolin. We have a limited number of instruments to lend. Music buddies and learning groups help new players.

In January 18 players went to the International Mandolin Festival in Sydney where Yvette Audain's newly commissioned composition, "Three Auckland Nocturnes" had its international debut and was greeted with delight and purchased by some participating orchestras. The orchestra has now reached a peak of high performance ability due to a week of intense rehearsal with 120 international plectrum playing musicians.

The orchestra is based in Auckland but they have contacts in Tauranga, Whakatane, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin who are all keen to meet other mandolin players.
