Art Deco Napier

The Art Deco Trust works for the preservation, enhancement and promotion of Napier's unique architecture.

Art Deco style emerged in Napier, New Zealand, when the town was rebuilt in the early 1930s following a massive Richter 7.8 earthquake. Nowhere else can you see such a variety and concentration of buildings in the styles of the 1930s: Stripped Classical, Spanish Mission, and above all Art Deco, the style of the 20th Century.

The Art Deco Trust was formed in February 1985 and occupies the Deco Centre. It employs a full-time staff of four, assisted by over 100 dedicated volunteers.
