AK Barok
AK Barok was formed in 2004 when a core group of dedicated players of baroque instruments decided to meet regularly to explore 18th century string music.
Under the leadership of baroque violinist Graham McPhail, assisted in administration by 'cellist Helen Polglase, the band is comprised of Auckland's established baroque string specialists, colleagues from Wellington, as well as talented young tertiary students.
Although the ensemble has a director to ensure a unified musical approach, the modus operandi of the group is one that values and depends on contributions from each member of the ensemble.
The members of AK Barok are committed to giving Aucklanders the rare chance to hear 18th century music brought to life with historic instruments and expressive approaches appropriate to the period and music.
