We thought this month we would try a rundown of arty picks from around the country…..

Whangarei should investigate its Cultural Memory, while Auckland goes contemporary this month with Missionary Positions, Curvy, Misery and Semi-Permanent. Prakash Patel will be a hit at O.Rex, as will The Swarm at The Gus Fisher. Earth Matters and Turuki Turuki! continue at Auckland Art Gallery. If these get you all inspired, you might like to try a weekend of Winter Arts.

Tauranga Art Gallery is Big Red and surrealist this month. Taranaki goes Pacific with Samoa Contemporary and Dateline Return. Joyce Campbell and John Reynolds are showing in Napier. Palmerston North is Solid Gold and Ans Westra shines in the Wairarapa.

Wellington is looking good with Rita Angus, Muramura, Joanna Langford, Fiona Hall, and Te Mata. Rats and Mice and My House Surrounded by a Thousand Suns look very exciting. And don’t miss the chance to wave Fare Welly to a favourite son.

In the South, The Suter explores neo-expressionism and Deidre Copeland lands in Blenheim. They’re doing things a bit differently in Christchurch this month with skateboard art and taxidermy. Children are spoilt with Te Tai Tamariki and I See Red.

Aaron Kereopa hits Queenstown and Ngai Tahu artists are on display in Wanaka. Hail Falls Noisily on Bamboo Leaves in Dunedin, complemented by Megan Huffadine, Russell Moses and Bruce Hunt.
