May is NZ Music Month. To celebrate, we’ve pulled out all the stops. We’ll feature over 400 music gigs on NZLive this month alone. Click here for the gig guide or type ‘gig’ into the ‘what’ search box on www.nzlive.com (try adding your town into the ‘where’ box to get a local listing).

It’s hard to believe that NZ Music Month turns seven this year. It’s done so much to showcase local acts and boost the visibility and success of New Zealand music.

In 2000, airtime for kiwi music on commercial radio stations made up around 10% of programming. By 2005, this had increased to nearly 23% and, in terms of hard sales, the amount of New Zealand music sold increased from 5.45% in 2000 to over 10% by 2004. During NZ Music Month last year, homegrown acts were a whopping 29% of albums sold.

An integral part of the campaign is the popular clothing line, including the ‘target’ t-shirts and hoodies. Pick one up at Hallensteins in any colour you like - as long as it’s black!
